The Team Schluckspecht of the University of Applied Siences Offenburg participates since 1998 in the Shell Eco-marathon (SEM). The most energy-efficient vehicle wins this challenge.

With this new vehicle Schluckspecht City, the team took part for the first time in 2009 in the UrbanConcept category.

In 2008, the Team Schluckspecht exceeded the 3000 km mark:

3198 km with one lite of gasoline
(SEM 2008 - Circuit Paul Armagnac in Nogaro, France)

With this excellent result, the team won the 1st place in the fuel cell category, and the 2nd place in the overall standings.

 

The newest challenge is, to design and build a car, which is able to beat an actual world record! The new, battery-powered "Schluckspecht E" shall go for a distance of over 1200km without recharging the batteries. The attempt will take place in South Africa, during the 2010 South African Solar Challenge.
